1st International Symposium on NeuroUrbanism and NeuroArchitecture

The 1st International Symposium on NeuroUrbanism and NeuroArchitecture, organized by the eMOTIONAL Cities project, took place on February 25-26, 2025, at MAAT Central in Lisbon, Portugal. The event aimed to foster interdisciplinary collaboration among experts in architecture, urban planning, neuroscience, technology, and data science to tackle urban challenges like climate change, rapid urbanization, and biodiversity loss, with the purpose of developing evidence-based strategies for healthier, more sustainable cities. Key presenters included Paulo Morgado, the Principal Investigator of the eMOTIONAL Cities project and a professor at IGOT-University of Lisbon, who presented the project’s findings on mapping urban emotional responses, alongside other researchers who led roundtables on neuroscience in urban planning and neuroarchitecture. The symposium also featured demonstrations of advanced technologies such as portable EEG, eye-tracking, and multisensory wristbands, illustrating their application in collecting psychophysiological data in urban settings. Recordings of the event are available below, embedded from the official Neurourbanismo live page, and further details can be accessed by contacting the organizers at secretariado@neurourbanismo.pt.
